The Australian motorcycle market has experienced a modest decline in sales during the first nine months of 2025, with a 2.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
According to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), a total of 63,988 motorcycles were sold between January and September 2025.

Breaking down the figures, off-road motorcycles accounted for 41.2% of total sales, experiencing a slight decrease of 0.7%. Road bikes made up 37.8% of the market, with a 3.8% decline. Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) saw a 4.3% decrease, representing 15.3% of total sales.

In contrast, the scooter segment bucked the trend, recording a 4.6% increase in sales. Scooters now account for 5.7% of the Australian motorcycle market, indicating a growing preference for affordable and practical urban mobility solutions.

Yamaha continues to lead overall sales, followed by Honda, Kawasaki, and KTM. The top three brands have maintained positive results year-to-date, reflecting their strong market presence and consumer trust.

For potential buyers, the current market conditions present both challenges and opportunities. The overall decline in sales may lead to more competitive pricing and financing options as dealerships strive to attract customers. The rise in scooter popularity suggests a shift towards cost-effective and convenient transportation, which could influence future product offerings and financing packages.

In conclusion, while the Australian motorcycle market faces a slight downturn, the resilience of certain segments like scooters highlights evolving consumer preferences. Prospective buyers should stay informed about market trends and explore various financing options to make well-informed purchasing decisions.
